You know, I really should not have mentioned my love affair with winter in my previous post...As some of you may know, it was followed with TWO FEET of snow. That's right. I was knee deep in snow walking to RA Group Process Saturday morning at 8am. Yes, I am a trooper. Yes, Residence Life was still open. Whyyyyyyyy did I want to work in Student Affairs again, you ask?

Well, I love it. As crazy as it sounds. As demanding as my schedule can be. As few hours I have for myself or for my loved ones...I love working with college students. Clearly this makes me a glutton for punishment and quite possibly certifiable.

The two feet of snow was...intense. And cold. And the wind was worse, whipping snow into my eyeballs as I walked through the street that had hardly been plowed. (Suburbs of Philadelphia are not known for their huge snow removal budgets) And yet, somehow it invigorated me for my day. I was excited because the people who had made it there, really wanted to be there. We had fun with it and we took humor in the fact that like 80 of us had trudged through, what everyone is calling "a blizzard" to be an RA.

I'm excited for interviews to start. I'm currently scheduling them and it's fun, I have to say. I'm excited for what next year will bring. I'm not so excited about the 12-18 inches of snow we're supposed to get tonight. Ew. Despite my invigoration over the last 2 feet, if I get another foot of snow, I may just scream. I certainly do not want it to ruin my oh so sweet Valentine's Day plans with Mike.

We're reenacting our first Philadelphia date. You may ask "What was your first Philadelphia date, Hillary?" And I will certainly tell you! We went to Hard Rock Cafe for cheeseburgers and saw the Liberty Bell! I was in grad school and desperately wanted to sit in one of those carriages wandering around Old City but we couldn't afford a $40 ride around in a carriage. So we did not go on one. And now we're going to go to Hard Rock and have Valentine's Day cheeseburgers and we ARE going on that carriage ride! Becuase that's the perks of being a starving artist and a poor RD. You're not wealthy, but you're not a grad student anymore and can afford to splurge on something just for romance's sake. So we are. And I'm excited.
